The Aga Khan Education Services (AKES)
Description
The Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) is hiring a School Nurse to work closely with the school administration to provide advanced first aid and support to the school, including maintaining and monitoring of the school sick bay. He/she will perform a variety of duties in the following functional areas:
Health Care
- Implement the health section of the health & safety manual in collaboration with occupational health & safety committee
- Care and management of students who become ill during the school day.
- Provides guidance and counselling in the area of health to students, staff, and parents according to professional standards whenever need arises
- Contacting parents when any child needs to be sent home due to sickness, injuries or other health related problem.
First Aid
- Carrying out of all duties relating to nursing and first aid applications.
- Maintain First Aid boxes and necessary supplies in the sickbay.
- Acting on any emergency matter immediately by taking the affected child to the hospital if immediate contact with parents cannot be made or the situation calls for it
Record Keeping
- Maintaining a register of all parents reporting for sickness.
- Maintain accurate nurse’s notes and records, including summaries of services provided.
- Be competent and up to date with current child protection policies and procedures
- Record and report all cases of diagnosed or suspected communicable disease to the school administration.
Sick bay Management
- Maintain an inventory of health room supplies.
- Ensure that the surroundings of the sickbay both within and outside the building are clean.
- Ensuring that the filters of the water coolers and glasses are clean at all times.
- Report environmental conditions which may adversely affect the safety and health of the students and staff.
The requirements
Qualifications / Experience/ Skills
- A Diploma in Nursing. A Bachelor in Nursing is an added advantage.
- Must have a practicing License from the Uganda Nurses & Midwives Council.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position.
- A Team player who works productively with a wide range of people
- Demonstrated ability to empathy.
- Good interpersonal and customer care skills.
- Ability to work with children in a multicultural environment.
