Field Agents

Temporary
Impact Water
Description

Impact Water is hiring Field Agents who perform the most essential part of Impact Water’s work—educating learners about the importance of drinking clean and safe water, and carrying out system maintenance to ensure the water purification systems are working properly. Field Agents also represent Impact Water in activities throughout the country, interacting with school administrators, teachers, and hundreds of students on a daily basis. The job primarily involves:

  • Traveling to three or more schools daily
  • Checking on water purification systems
  • Collecting data
  • Problem-solving
  • Educating students

Successful Field Agents are reliable, have high integrity, work well with their supervising Field Coordinator, communicate effectively with school staff, accurately collect data, and are confident public speakers in front of students. This is a temporary role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure Proper Functioning of Impact Water Systems: This includes the distribution, maintenance, and replacement of filters, UV lamps, Aquatabs, and cartridges, as well as the collection and return of unused materials.
  • Raise Awareness and Educate: Promote awareness and understanding about the importance of drinking clean water and how Impact Water’s products work through School Engagement and Product Usage (SEPU) visits. The primary audience is schoolchildren, but Field Agents are expected to advocate for clean drinking water with everyone they meet.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Collect and share accurate data to ensure the effectiveness of our work, improve decision-making, and report accomplishments to donors. Field Agents collect data on their phones to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure Systems Deliver Clean Water: Conduct water quality tests, observe, report, and fix malfunctioning systems while helping schools use the systems effectively.
  • Other Duties as Assigned by the Field Coordinator: This may include delivering documents for schools to sign, establishing relationships with local government officials, and conducting additional research to improve operations.

SUPERVISION AND PERFORMANCE REVIEW

Each Field Agent is supervised by a Field Coordinator based in Kampala, who will visit each Field Agent at least twice in person. Field Agents have regular check-ins, often on a weekly or daily basis, to receive feedback and performance evaluations.

REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

Field Agents report directly to a Field Coordinator. Their work with schools is also checked by a Customer Experience Agent. Field Agents are part of a large network and are encouraged to learn and problem-solve together. Impact Water fosters a culture of continuous learning and internal promotions, with several high-performing Field Agents moving on to become Field Coordinators.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

This position is based in the Field Agent’s own district and requires significant travel. Field Agents are expected to travel every workday, Monday through Friday, throughout their employment, which typically lasts about six weeks.

KEY ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to Work Autonomously: Self-manage and work independently with limited in-person supervision.
  • High Integrity: Demonstrate strong ethical standards and transparency in responsibilities.
  • Cost-Conscious: Use resources efficiently and manage operational expenses prudently.
  • Team Player and Commitment: Collaborate effectively with other Field Agents, Field Coordinators, and stakeholders.
  • Grit and Resilience: Exhibit persistence in overcoming challenges and remain committed to achieving results.
