Description

Chint Uganda is hiring a Inventory Accountant to manage and control inventory accounting processes, ensure accuracy of stock records and support cost control, and maintain compliance with financial and tax regulations. The role is critical in safeguarding company inventory, improving stock efficiency, and ensuring proper valuation and reporting.

 

Reports To: Finance Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Inventory Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate inventory records in the accounting
  • Ensure proper valuation of inventory
  • Reconcile inventory sub-ledger to general ledger on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare and review stock movement reports (receipts, issues, transfers, adjustments).
  • Analyze inventory variances and provide explanations.

2. Stock Control & Reconciliations

  • Perform regular stock reconciliations between physical stock and system records.
  • Investigate discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Work closely with warehouse and procurement teams to ensure stock accuracy.
  • Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and damaged inventory.

3. Costing & Analysis

  • Track and monitor cost of goods sold (COGS).
  • Ensure accurate product costing including landed costs (freight, duties, clearing charges).
  • Support pricing decisions with cost analysis.
  • Prepare inventory-related reports for management decision-making.

4. COMPLIANCE & INTERNAL CONTROLS

• Maintain proper documentation for all inventory transactions.

  • Implement and monitor internal controls over inventory movements.
  • Support internal and external audits.

System & Process Improvement

  • Support ERP system improvements related to inventory.
  • Ensure proper coding and classification of inventory items.
  • Train store and operations staff on inventory procures and controls.

Key Performance Indicators (KPls)

  • Accuracy of inventory records (variance levels).
  • Timeliness of monthly reconciliations
  • Reduction in stock losses and discrepancies.
  • Accuracy of inventory valuation and COGS.
  • Compliance with audit and tax requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional qualification (CPA/ACCA – Level 3 or above preferred).
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in inventory accounting, preferably in manufacturing or trading.

  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and costing principles.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced level preferred).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Integrity and ability to enforce controls.
