Description

St. Catherine’s Hospital is hiring Night Supervisor (2) responsible for ensuring the smooth operations of the hospital during night hours. Role holder will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of high quality patient care, managing staff performance during night hours and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures. The night supervisor serves as a key point of contact for both clinical and administrative issues, proactively addressing any key challenges that arise overnight.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all the activities of the night shift staff ensuring smooth operations and quality patient care.
  • Provide oversight of patient care by ensuring that patients receive proper care and attention throughout the night shift.
  • Monitor patient conditions, review and update care plans and address any issues or concerns that arise during the night.
  • Handle emergencies and critical situations that may arise during the night shift by coordinating with the appropriate personnel, such as doctors, nurses, and security staff, to address emergencies promptly and effectively.
  • Manage staffing levels during the night shift by ensuring adequate coverage in all departments, make adjustments as needed Ascertainable, and manage flexi requests.
  • Monitor, manage the availability and allocation of necessary resources, such as medical supplies and equipment.
  • Serve as a point of contact for staff members, patients, and families during the night shift.
  • Communicate with other supervisors and managers, exchange relevant information and address issues that require attention.
  • Conducting daily file audits of all inpatient files to ensure the following:
    • Doctors have documented their patient rounds.
    • Nurses have carried out all doctors instructions.
  • Conduct frequent patient rounds to ensure that patients have a positive experience at service points.
  • Generate patient feedback during the night and share with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Supervise handover process during shift handover, ensuring that handover is physical, verbal and written.
  • Ensure quality and safety standards are upheld during the night shift by monitoring compliance with hospital protocols, regulatory requirements and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents, patient care activities, staffing levels, and other relevant information.
  • Identify training needs for the night shift staff and coordinate learning opportunities to enhance staff performance and promote professional growth through on the job training and mentorship.
  • Submit reports every morning covering the night supervised to the Principal Nursing Officer highlighting key issues on the shift.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • The applicant must hold a Degree from Accredited University.
  • Certificate of Registration with the Nursing Council.
  • The applicant should be a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) – additional relevant healthcare professional certification is an added advantage.
  • Supervisory or in-charge experience in a hospital setting is an added advantage (provide proof of this in your application).
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make critical decisions; handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with patient care standards and quality improvement processes.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with a diverse team of healthcare professionals.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems.
