Backbone Feeds Limited is hiring a Truck Driver (3) will be responsible for transporting company staff in a safe and economic manner, adhering to Backbone Feeds Uganda policies and the traffic laws and regulations of Uganda. The nature of the job requires that the applicant pays attention to timing, diaries, and itineraries.
Key Responsibilities
- Transportation and Safety:
- Transporting the company staff as assigned at all times.
- Ensuring safety of staff at all times.
- Ensuring use of seat belt at all times.
- Ensuring proper communication procedures and checking vehicle for roadworthiness prior to undertaking any trip.
- Vehicle Maintenance:
- Maintaining the vehicles allocated in sound mechanical condition.
- Ensure the vehicle is washed and kept clean at all times.
- Ensuring the vehicle is fueled and serviced promptly.
- Report any faults/breakdown and accidents imminently to the supervisor.
- Ensure the first aid kits, tools, and spares are kept in place and in good condition.
- Road test and certify the vehicle on return from the garage.
- Record Keeping:
- Ensure that the vehicle has log sheets and pens.
- Maintain accurate vehicle records to ensure that all trips, fuel fill-ups, time, and mileage readings are recorded.
- Ensure that fuel, transport, and service forms are filled.
- Submit all vehicle log sheets on a monthly basis to the senior administration officer.
- Maintain and complete vehicle job cards for repairs and service.
- Delivery:
- Deliver official documents to their destinations and any other errands whenever called upon.
- Vehicle Compliance:
- Check on vehicle licenses and third party to ensure that the vehicle comprehensive insurance is valid.
- Inform the supervisor two weeks in advance of renewals.
- Additional Responsibility:
- The employee may also be required to undertake additional duties or projects from time to time with their capabilities and consistent with the responsibilities of roles as directed by the employer.
Job Requirements
- No record of major traffic accidents, drunk driving, drug driving, and other illegal records.
- Able to adapt to long distance driving.
- Should be hard working, responsible, and obey company’s dispatch arrangements.
Key Indicators
- Zero incidents of negligence, misuse of company car, including fueling from approved locations and avoiding adulterated fuel.
- Zero incidents of outstanding parking fees.
- Zero incidents of penalties and traffic police fines.
- Fraud incidents and operational losses related to fleet and generator sets.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education:
- A college graduate and a valid driving permit/license.
- Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of active driving experience for town runs and long-distance travels.
- Technical and Soft Skills:
- High degree of social skills when dealing with a range of people and situations.
